SUMMARY:The ASK Workshop (Face To Face)
DESCRIPTION:In just one day (2 half days if online)\, you can learn how to help a child at risk of suicide become a child with hope for life. \nChildren are not small adults. So why use approaches designed for adults to help a child? The ASK Workshop (currently only delivered virtually due to the pandemic) is the only suicide prevention workshop that specifically addresses suicide risk in children and gives participants developmentally appropriate strategies and tools to identify young children at risk of suicide and quickly gather and organise key details needed to assess risk and inform safety planning. \nWhat are the learning objectives? \n\nRecognise how a child’s understandings of death and suicide may be implicated in risk\nBecome aware of the ways children at risk of suicide communicate their need for help\nRecognise factors that may increase suicide risk and those that may mitigate it\nKnow how to work with both in order to formulate the basis of a plan for safety\nRecognise the need to enlist the support of others to develop a plan for safety\nUnderstand and be able to meet common challenges in working with parents to facilitate safety\n\nHow is the course run? \nWorkshop process The “ASK” WorkshopTM successfully blends a variety of teaching and learning modalities including mini-lecture\, Socratic dialogue\, video\, small group work\, guided simulations\, and case studies \nYou will be required to complete some self paced online study modules prior to the course start date.
