SUMMARY:Business Risk and Governance (2 x 2 hour sessions)
DESCRIPTION:This module focuses on the Business Risks and Governance issues that regularly arise in medical practice – they are often difficult to deal with.  We will focus on how to create competitive\, collaborative and commercial advantage for the GP Practice through an understanding of the Risks and Governance issues relevant to General Practice.  The module will be delivered as an interactive session with practical guidance to enabling participants to map the techniques onto their own risk and governance profile for their practice.  The Tips on managing risk provide useful guidance to enable participants to understand and mitigate the governance requirements\, liabilities and risks within General Practice. Group work is provided on all aspects of the programme so that participants develop their understanding of the topics by interacting with colleagues. \n  \nObjectives: participants will improve their understanding of the Risk and Governance responsibilities.  The module will demonstrate how adopting industry practiced due diligence techniques will help to mitigate risks and will also help with all aspects of practice governance and compliance. \n

DESCRIPTION:Course Overview/ Aim \nThe aim of the course is to introduce professionals to the practice of FGM in girls and women\, exploring why it is practiced\, the different types of FGM\, its prevalence and its acceptance\, along with how to recognise the signs and indicators. The World Health Organisation estimates that 3 million girls undergo some form of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) each year.  Female Genital Mutilation is illegal in the UK but still affects a significant number of British girls and foreign nationals from a variety of cultures. \nLearning Outcomes \n\nBy the end of the session participants will be able to:\nDescribe what FGM is and the different types of FGM\nUnderstand the prevalence of FGM and identify high risk communities\nUnderstand the law in relation to FGM\nExplain the reasons why FGM is practiced and accepted in some communities\nBe aware that FGM in young girls below the age of eighteen is ‘child abuse’ a violation of the child’s right to life\, their body integrity as well as their right to health\nBe able to recognise what the signs and indicators of FGM are and to make appropriate referrals to safeguard children and young people\nBe aware of the support services for women and girls who have undergone FGM\n\n

DESCRIPTION:For professionals or practitioners working with children and young people \nBackground: \nThis is one day intense course which provides an overview into how children and young people access new information technologies\, what the safety issues are and how we as professionals can help parents and young people to keep safe. \nParticipants will gain an awareness of social media and new technological advances that children and young people are able to access. \nTraining Level: 2/3 Learning Outcomes: \nAims \n\nTo provide detailed and in-depth understanding of specific safeguarding and child protection issues relating to how children are growing up online and some of the risks and challenges this creates.\nTo explore some of the latest thinking and strategies for addressing these risks and supporting and safeguarding children.\n\n Exploration of Offender behaviour and professional responses \nExploration of Children and young people and professional responses . \n Outcomes \nThis course should enhance skills and knowledge in the following areas; \n\nHow sex offenders think and operate online and the techniques they use\, as well as how they select vulnerable victims.\nThe complexities that the online environment creates\, the particular vulnerabilities of victims.\nUp to date learning about safe and effective intervention to apply to their practice.\nHow to intervene in children’s wider social lives to support them through some of the negative influences of social media\, for example risks relating to mental health and low self-esteem\, addiction\, pornography\, and bullying.\nHow to offer sensible\, ethical and balanced guidance on how to navigate the above pressures.\n\nThe course will be interactive and will enable participants to reflect on and develop their practice in relation to supporting vulnerable young people and their families with online safeguarding challenges. \nTrainers: \nThis course will be delivered by Helen King

Trainer Manar Matusiak has over 20 years’ experience at director level in the specialist care and education sector\, in particular in the field of autism. She helped to set up and develop the first transitional residential service in the country for young adults with autism and complex needs. Her background is in teaching and management. During her career\, she was Personal and Professional Development Director for one of the national specialist autism providers\, overseeing the development. She is currently Managing Director of Living Autism and she trains and coaches nationally across all sectors This is an introductory workshop and may not be suitable for those in clinical settings. Workshops are based on small group interactions. Please do ensure you are committed to attending the full duration of the workshop. The workshop is costed at £75 PP and has been funded by North East London Health and Care Partnership

DESCRIPTION:Overeaters Anonymous (OA) is a 12 step programme open to all\, and welcomes anyone who wants to stop eating compulsively. We have members who experience all sorts of disordered eating including overeating\, compulsive eating\, undereating and bulimia. \nThe session will include information about 12 step programmes in general and how they help people with addictions. Specifically looking at how OA is structured\, illustrating this with personal stories. \n  \nBy the end of the session health professionals will:\n\nIncrease their knowledge about Overeaters Anonymous and the 12 step programme\nUnderstand that for some patients with eating disorders\, this is a solution\nKnow where & how to signpost patients.\n\n  \n\nPlease MUTE⛔ your microphones prior to joining to avoid unnecessary noise disruption. SUMMARY:Suicide First Aid Lite (4 hours)
DESCRIPTION:CLICK HERE to register you place \nThe Suicide First Aid Lite (delivered virtually) is a half day course giving learners the knowledge and tools to understand that suicide is one of the most preventable deaths and some basic skills can help someone with thoughts of suicide stay safe from their thoughts and stay alive \nSFA Lite is comprised of 2 parts over half day. The programme teaches the skills needed to identify someone who may be thinking about suicide and to pass the person onto a suicide first aider. \nSuicide First Aid Lite (Virtual) training offers learning outcomes that are knowledge based and factual. This training can be used as a stand-alone programme or as the first part of a journey to learn suicide prevention skills. \nMethod of delivery: \nTaught over half day using tutor facilitated socratic learning\, tutor-led role- play\, mini lectures\, group work and audio-visual presentations. This is a has some interactive elements and is an emotionally engaging learning experience. Use of Camera and microphone is essential for quality and safety reasons\, otherwise you will be asked to leave the session \nPre-training requirement \nNo previous experience or training is necessary. Participants will be asked to self-reflect and empathise with a person having thoughts of suicide. \nWho should attend? \nMulti-sector practitioners including health\, housing\, social care\, education\, criminal justice\, call centre operators\, private\, voluntary and public sector workers and community members. \nWhat previous attendees have feedback: \n“Great and informative course which helped to identify a range of causes\, reasons\, signs of suicide and how to support someone in a moment of crisis” \n“The trainer was excellent and very clear in her explanations. DESCRIPTION:The workshop objectives include: \n\nAn introduction to the Spectrum\nCharacteristics of autism\nCommunication\n Rigidity and repetitive behaviours\n Sensory\n Strengths\nWhat works\nLegislative requirements\n\nCourse facilitation The course will be delivered in a combination of theory\, as well as practical and interactive exercises. Attendees will also have the opportunity to consider action points going forward after the course. Trainer Manar Matusiak has over 20 years’ experience at director level in the specialist care and education sector\, in particular in the field of autism. She helped to set up and develop the first transitional residential service in the country for young adults with autism and complex needs. Her background is in teaching and management. During her career\, she was Personal and Professional Development Director for one of the national specialist autism providers\, overseeing the development. She is currently Managing Director of Living Autism and she trains and coaches nationally across all sectors This is an introductory workshop and may not be suitable for those in clinical settings. Workshops are based on small group interactions. Please do ensure you are committed to attending the full duration of the workshop. The workshop is costed at £75 PP and has been funded by North East London Health and Care Partnership

Classroom teaching will take one full day and will be held at the London Regional Cytology Training Centre based at Northwick Park Hospital. \nFollowing on from this clinical practice & portfolio work\, under the supervision of a mentor\, will need to be completed with a final external assessment.
