SUMMARY:Foundations in Motivational Interviewing
DESCRIPTION:“Exploring Motivation and Facilitating Change”\n\n\n\n\nMotivational Interviewing (MI) is a person-centred counselling style for addressing the common problem of ambivalence about change. Course is currently only delivered online.\n\n\n\n\nThe course will provide opportunities to observe and practice the approach in a protected environment. By the end of the course participants will feel able to start using Motivational Interviewing (MI) in their work settings. \nPlease note\, MI does not have an evidence base for working with people with  significant learning difficulties. \nThe two day (or equivalent to) course introduces participants to the theory\, spirit and principles in using MI to help people make positive change. The training will use a range of methods including didactic teaching\, live demonstrations\, audio\, video and coaching. The training will aim to create a curiosity to learn more and develop practice. \nThis course will be delivered by a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT) who has worked and trained across a wide range of settings. Attendees must fully attend both days of the course. We also invite all attendees to practice forums post 6 months of attending the course. \n\n\n\n\nLearning outcomes\n\n\n\n\nThe aim of the 2 day (or equivalent to) programme aims to equip delegates to: \n\nUnderstand Motivational Interviewing (MI) skills and processes involved  in how people change behaviour\nPractice core communication skills\nUnderstand  and  practice   responding to change  talk and  sustain  talk\nExchanging  information\nDeveloping a change plan\nIntegrating  skills into  current  practice\n\n\n\n\n\nWho is the course for?\n\n\n\n\nThe course is aimed at any professional working with adults\, young people\, children or families\, where behavioural or attitudinal change is needed or desired. The course will provide opportunities to observe and practice the approach in a protected environment. By the end of the course\, participants will feel able to start using MI in their work settings. \nThis course is also suitable as a refresher/update for people who trained in MI some time ago. We do not recommend anybody who has has attended MI training in the last 3 years to attend this. \n\n\n\n\nHow this the course delivered?\n\n\n\n\nThese courses will be delivered using Zoom. This is very easy and safe to use regardless of your level of IT skill. \nYou will need a device with a microphone and camera together with a suitably fast internet connection. Although mobile devices and tablets can be used\, we recommend the use of laptop or desktop PC for the best experience. Some devices provided by employers may have restrictions in place. Please use this test link (https://zoom.us/test) to check your set up before booking. \nYou will be sent joining instructions including all the necessary login links\, passwords and guidance on how to use the relevant functionality 48 hours prior the course start date. \nShould you have any concerns about the accessibility of remote delivery please contact us at thccg.cepn@nhs.net to discuss how we can best help you. \n\n\n\n\nCourse fee\n\n\n\n\nThe course costs £200 PP regardless of mode of delivery. \nThere are currently limited number of funded places available for health and social care staff working in the London Boroughs of Barking & Dagenham\, City & Hackney\, Havering\, Newham\, Redbridge\, Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest. SUMMARY:Handling Difficult Encounters in the Reception Area
DESCRIPTION:Audience: Administration and Reception staff \nAn interactive and entertaining 2-hour remote training course\, which focuses on how to deal with challenging situations both on the phone and face to face and helps develop positive communication skills. The course will also look at how to communicate effectively through on-line platforms. \nYou will have the opportunity to watch and discuss recorded theatre sketches. The sketches are set in a GP setting and performed by professional actors as a foundation for analysing human interactions. Delegates are encouraged to think about the psychological state and behaviour of themselves and others. Through watching these sketches and considering various communication models participants think about how to identify and prevent hostile situations and develop a positive communication style. Delegates will develop an understanding of the difference between verbal\, non-verbal and para-verbal communications\, active listening skills\, the use of empathy and a positive approach to diversity \n\n\n\nRules of engagement \n(MUST READ) \n\nAll courses are delivered virtually via Teams or Zoom\n\n\nDates are offered from September onwards. Additional dates will be added based on demand and need. Your Training Hub will be providing regular updates on new topics and dates. Where places are fully subscribed\, do add your name to the waiting list to be offered priority place on future dates.\n\n\nRegistering on the courses are mandatory. This is typically through Eventbrite platform\n\n\nIn the event of needing to cancel place(s)\, this must be done via the Eventbrite platform\n\n\nSignificant public funds are being invested on these programmes to support staff development. Booking on a workshop and not turning up will incur a DNA charge. This will be the cost price of the place on the workshop. These are not free but funded Attendance/Non-attendance report will be produced and shared with your local Training Hub team\n\n\nTo ensure a high quality learning experience\, all the workshops will be interactive. To enable this you MUST have a working camera and mics to participate. You may be asked by the facilitator on the day to leave if you do not have a working camera and/or mic\n\n\nLearners are expected to join in a timely manner\, and participate in the training fully. Late entries will not be given entry. Partial participation will result in certificate not being issued and line management will be informed\n\n\nJoining links will be circulated 48-72 hours prior to delivery date. Once delegate book on a course\, they are expected to ensure diary is blocked to participate in the session\n\n\nWe expect learners to ensure protected time\, space and equipment is accessible prior to registering. This should be a place and time with minimal distraction. Practice Management should be supporting staff to facilitate this\n\n\nWe expect all learners to participate in the evaluation process of the programme. This would include on the day feedback\, and impact survey that will be carried out 12 – 16 weeks post training. This process will include collating future training needs.\n\n\nFinally\, NEL Training Hub hope you enjoy the learning experience. Do feel free to feedback any comments directly to your local Training Hub if there are any suggestions or improvements that can be made

SUMMARY:Cervical Cancer Prevention Training Jo's Trust
DESCRIPTION:We aim to train anyone who wants to help Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust share cervical health messages.\nWe train health care staff (non-clinical staff or healthcare professionals) and people in the community who feel strongly about improving health outcomes for women in their area.\nEvery day in the UK\, 9 women are diagnosed with and 2 women die from cervical cancer. Yet\, cervical cancer is now largely preventable through cervical screening and the HPV vaccine.\nThe number of women attending cervical screening is declining so we need your help to change these statistics and help us reach our goal of eliminating cervical cancer in the UK. \nWhat can we offer you?\n• A free training session\, around 1.5 hours in duration\, tailored to your needs and the populations you work with.\n• A certificate of completion (following our first month evaluation).\n• A session that will raise awareness of cervical cancer and prevention\, and will equip you with the skills\, knowledge and tools you need to communicate key messages. We will also give you space to reflect on how best to engage with your patients to change behaviour and overcome barriers to awareness and screening. You can help us eliminate cervical cancer in the UK!\n• Relevant information and materials. \nWhat do we ask in return?\nWe ask that everyone who receives our training commits to:\n• Sharing key Cervical health messages with 15+ people within 1 month of training.\n• Reporting back on numbers of people reached\, messages shared and any feedback you receive in your 1 month follow up \nWhat you will learn:\nYou will learn about the below topics\, which will enable you to have conversations with people:\n1. What Cervical Cancer is and how it is caused\n2. Warning signs & symptoms of cervical cancer\n3. How Cervical Cancer can be prevented\n4. The barriers women experience to attending screening \nIf you have any more questions about the training or want to make us aware of topics of special interest\, please get in touch with lisa.gates@jostrust.org.uk
