SUMMARY:Foundations in Motivational Interviewing (MI): “Exploring Motivation and Facilitating Change”
DESCRIPTION:(delivered across multiple dates/formats) – funded for NEL staff \nDelivery led by Sophie Dissanayake\, Learning and Development Practitioner & MI Trainer (MINT network trainer) \nMotivational Interviewing (MI) is a person-centred counselling style for addressing the common problem of ambivalence about change. North East London Training Hubs have funded limited places for local Health and Social Care workforce to access these courses. The programme will introduce\, evidence-based skills and strategies to 1) explore people’s ambivalence to change health damaging behaviours and  2) facilitate positive lifestyle change \nThe course will provide opportunities to observe and practice the approach in a protected environment. By the end of the course participants will feel able to start using Motivational Interviewing (MI) in their work settings. The course (equivalent to two days) introduces participants to the theory\, spirit and principles in using MI to help people make positive change. The training will use a range of methods including didactic teaching\, live demonstrations through role play with professional actors\, audio\, video and coaching. The training will aim to create a curiosity to learn more and develop practice. This course delivery team will include a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT) who has worked and trained across a wide range of settings. \nThe course is valued at £200pp\, and this is funded by the Training Hub. It is also CPD accredited and certificates will only be issued following completion of the training. Participants must fully attend all parts of the course and ensure you have a working microphone and camera. Late comers will not be allowed entry. The training will aim to create a curiosity to learn more and develop practice. \nThis course will be delivered by a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT) who has worked and trained across a wide range of settings. Attendees must fully attend both days of the course. We also invite all attendees to practice forums post 6 months of attending the course. \n\n\n\n\nLearning outcomes\n\n\n\n\nThe aim of the 2 day (or equivalent to) programme aims to equip delegates to: \n\nUnderstand Motivational Interviewing (MI) skills and processes involved  in how people change behaviour\nPractice core communication skills\nUnderstand  and  practice   responding to change  talk and  sustain  talk\nExchanging  information\nDeveloping a change plan\nIntegrating  skills into  current  practice\n\n\n\n\n\nWho is the course for?\n\n\n\n\nThe course is aimed at any professional working with adults\, young people\, children or families\, where behavioural or attitudinal change is needed or desired. The course will provide opportunities to observe and practice the approach in a protected environment. By the end of the course\, participants will feel able to start using MI in their work settings. \nThis course is also suitable as a refresher/update for people who trained in MI some time ago. We do not recommend anybody who has has attended MI training in the last 3 years to attend this. \n\n\n\n\nHow this the course delivered?\n\n\n\n\nThese courses will be delivered using Zoom. This is very easy and safe to use regardless of your level of IT skill. \nYou will need a device with a microphone and camera together with a suitably fast internet connection. Although mobile devices and tablets can be used\, we recommend the use of laptop or desktop PC for the best experience. Some devices provided by employers may have restrictions in place. DESCRIPTION:Wednesday 22nd February 2023\, 1300 – 1700\nCLICK HERE to register \nIf you cannot attend the face to face training\, there is also the opportunity to attend the virtually delivered Suicide First Aid Lite – standard course and a youth version available. The half day course giving learners the knowledge and tools to understand that suicide is one of the most preventable deaths and some basic skills can help someone with thoughts of suicide stay safe from their thoughts and stay alive. \nSFA Lite is comprised of 4 hours\, interactive\, small group workshop accredited by City & Guilds. The programme teaches the skills needed to identify someone who may be thinking about suicide and to pass the person onto a suicide first aider. Suicide First Aid Lite (Virtual) training offers learning outcomes that are knowledge based and factual. This training can be used as a stand-alone programme or as the first part of a journey to learn suicide prevention skills. An Adults and Children’s version of the course is available. Please refrain from booking on both as there are significant overlaps in the content. \nMethods of delivery:\nTaught over half day using tutor facilitated socratic learning\, tutor-led role- play\, mini lectures\, group work and audio-visual presentations. This is a has some interactive elements and is an emotionally engaging learning experience \nPre-training requirement\nNo previous experience or training is necessary. Participants will be asked to self-reflect and empathise with a person having thoughts of suicide. \nWho should attend?\nMulti-sector practitioners including health\, housing\, social care\, education\, criminal justice\, call centre operators\, private\, voluntary and public sector workers and community members. \nNOTE there is a £90 charge that will be enforced for failure to turn up following booking\, or cancellations less than 10 days prior to course. There is a fixed cost commitment that is irrecoverable to secure learning materials. DESCRIPTION:Do You Want To Become A Mental Health First Aider? \nWe are pleased to offer all staff working in North East London with the opportunity to become a qualified Mental Health First Aider.\nThe Adult MHFA course qualifies you as a Mental Health First Aider\, course accredited by the Royal Society of Public Health. Course is currently only available online. Please see listings below for available dates. \nThis course is usually delivered over 2 full days however the online delivery is across 4 bitesize learning sessions. Completion of course qualifies you as a Mental Health First Aider\, giving you: \n\nAn in-depth understanding of mental health and the factors that can affect wellbeing\nPractical skills to spot the triggers and signs of mental health issues\nConfidence to step in\, reassure and support a person in distress\nEnhanced interpersonal skills such as non-judgemental listening\nKnowledge to help someone recover their health by guiding them to further support – whether that’s self-help resources\, through their employer\, the NHS\, or a mix\n\nHow is the course delivered? And what is the course structure?\nCourse is delivered across 2 days (or 4 bitesize sessions online across four days)\, and learning takes place across four manageable sessions. Through a mix of group activities\, presentations and discussions\, each session is built around a Mental Health First Aid action plan. Our courses are always delivered by experienced instructors. No background knowledge of mental health required. Funded places are available for people who work in the London Boroughs of Barking & Dagenham\, City & Hackney\, Havering\, Newham\, Redbridge\, Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest \nYou will be expected to participate in the programme evaluation to help us learn assess impact of learning and improve future delivery. DESCRIPTION:Monday 20th February & Monday 6th March 2023\nMental Health First Aid (MHFA) is a training course which teaches people how to identify\, understand and help someone who may be experiencing a mental health issue. MHFA won’t teach you to be a therapist\, but it will teach you to listen\, reassure and respond\, even in a crisis – and even potentially stop a crisis from happening. You’ll learn to recognise warning signs of mental ill health\, and develop the skills and confidence to approach and support someone while keeping yourself safe.\n**face to face** \nMUST ATTEND BOTH SESSIONS TO BE CERTIFIED \nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER \nThe standard cost of this course is £325.00 per person. This is being funded by North East London Training Hub in collaboration with the NEL Integrated Care Board. The £325.00 course cost will be enforced for failure to turn up or cancellations within 48-hours of the course start date. DESCRIPTION:Various dates from Feb 2023 – Mar 2023\nCLICK HERE to register \nThis newly launched three hour course delivered virtually provides an introduction to disordered eating in adults\, aiming to increase awareness and understanding. Delivered by a trainer with lived experience of eating disorders\, it provides insight into the challenges associated with recovery and guidance on how to make sense of disordered eating and it’s function for the individual. The session is aimed broadly at anyone with an interest in learning more about these issues. \nThe following topics are included in the session: \n• Grounding eating disorders in fact: addressing myths and misconceptions\n• The spectrum of eating behavior and eating disorder diagnoses.\n• Understanding the function of an eating disorder\n• Weight stigma and its impact\n• Early intervention and barriers to accessing support\n• Person-centered care and support: what you can do to help \n**Limited numbers apply early. Joining instructions will be send 48 hours prior to delivery date** \nTrainer bio – Katharine Lazenby\nKatharine Lazenby is mental health expert by experience\, drawing on her lived experience of eating disorders\, psychiatric treatment and hospitalization. She is currently a Project Manager at East London NHS Foundation Trust but has extensive experience as a mental health trainer within the public sector\, educator and public speaker. As a visiting scholar at London Southbank University\, she lectures on the lived experience of eating disorders and psychologically informed environments. She sits on the board of directors for the Design in Mental Health Network and has spoken at a number of national conferences about her lived experience of mental health care and recovery. The North East London ICS has developed a Green Plan\, in which we committed to providing education and awareness to all primary care staff. \nJoin our Clinical Leads for Net Zero from Primary Care to learn about how the climate crisis is a health crisis and understand about how primary care transformation can help us reduce the NHS’s carbon footprint. \nThe first session takes place on 15 September and they are open to all clinical and non-clinical Primary Care colleagues working in North East London. These sessions will cover the support that is available to the young people you work with. \nKooth.com is a free\, safe\, confidential and non-stigmatised way for young people\, which is funded by the NHS\, local authorities and organisations to receive counselling\, advice and support on-line. Kooth delivers 1000’s of counselling sessions each year in Local Authorities across the UK. Available until 10pm each night\, 365 days per year\, it provides a much needed out of hours service for advice and help. As 50% of referrals to CAMHS are deemed inappropriate to their criteria\, Kooth gives GPs/Professionals an alternative way of ensuring patients can access free support when they need it\, in a medium young people know and use.

DESCRIPTION:East London Health and Care Partnership invite all public and voluntary sector organisations to participate in this half day workshop to improve knowledge\, skills and understanding in supporting those bereaved through suicide.\nThe partnership are working with Rosedale Training\, to deliver these workshops. Previous attendees to this training demonstrated a real desire to make a real difference to the suicide statistics and better help and support those who have been bereaved through suicide.\nAims of the training will be;\n• For delegates to feel confident supporting those who have been bereaved through Suicide\n• To be able to use appropriate language.\n• Understand what may and may not be helpful.\n• Be familiar and confident using The Help Is at Hand book.\n• Be able to signpost to other organisations who offer specialist support if required.\nYou will be required to provide a postal address for learning materials to be sent to you\nNote\, although the workshop is funded\, there will be DNA charge enforced if you fail to turn up following booking.

Delivered by a trainer with lived experience of eating disorders\, it provides insight into the challenges associated with recovery and guidance on how to make sense of disordered eating and it’s function for the individual. The session is aimed broadly at anyone with an interest in learning more about these issues. \nThe following topics are included in the session: \n• Grounding eating disorders in fact: addressing myths and misconceptions\n• The spectrum of eating behavior and eating disorder diagnoses.\n• Understanding the function of an eating disorder\n• Weight stigma and its impact\n• Early intervention and barriers to accessing support\n• Person-centered care and support: what you can do to help \n**Limited numbers apply early. Joining instructions will be send 48 hours prior to delivery date** \nTrainer bio – Katharine Lazenby\nKatharine Lazenby is mental health expert by experience\, drawing on her lived experience of eating disorders\, psychiatric treatment and hospitalization. She is currently a Project Manager at East London NHS Foundation Trust but has extensive experience as a mental health trainer within the public sector\, educator and public speaker. As a visiting scholar at London Southbank University\, she lectures on the lived experience of eating disorders and psychologically informed environments. She sits on the board of directors for the Design in Mental Health Network and has spoken at a number of national conferences about her lived experience of mental health care and recovery.
