SUMMARY:UEL PGA Webinar "Supporting learners in difficulty"
DESCRIPTION:Thursday 23rd April 2026\, 1pm – 1:45pm \nStudents enrolled in health-related programmes experience disproportionately high levels of academic pressure\, emotional distress\, and wellbeing challenges. The combination of intensive curricula\, clinical placements\, professional identity formation\, and exposure to patient suffering places health students at increased risk of burnout\, anxiety\, and disengagement. Universities therefore have a critical role in recognising and responding effectively to students in difficulty\, particularly within health disciplines. \nJoin the upcoming session of UEL Postgraduate Academy of Health to explore common indicators of student distress in health programmes and examine the unique academic\, clinical\, and personal factors that contribute to vulnerability. \nDr Theresa Martin will highlight evidence-informed approaches to early identification\, supportive conversations\, and referral pathways\, emphasising the importance of trauma-informed\, compassionate\, and culturally responsive practices. Dr Martin will also aim to equip professional and university staff with greater confidence and practical tools to support health students in difficulty\, promote student wellbeing\, and contribute to safe\, sustainable learning environments within health education. \nClick HERE to register.

SUMMARY:Investing in You: Quality Improvement Training
DESCRIPTION:on 7th May\, in-person at Whitechapel Town Hall.\nWhy invest in your development now?\nThe NHS landscape is ever-changing – perhaps now more than ever (although to be fair we’ve been saying that for 77 years…). With constant shifts in policy\, structure and demand\, one of the best investments you can make is in yourself. Learning new skills doesn’t just help you do your job better; it rewires how your brain approaches problems\, opens new neural pathways\, and builds resilience for whatever comes next.\nQuality Improvement offers a structured\, creative way to face challenges. It teaches you to test multiple potential solutions\, learn from what works and what doesn’t\, and share those lessons with others. The beauty of QI is that you use data to prove you’re heading in the right direction – no guesswork\, just evidence.\n\nWhat makes this training different?\nThere are many QI training programmes out there. What sets this one apart is the learning experience itself. We have been supporting the NHS in North East London for 12 years now – we know you\, we know (or are!) our patients\, we know the patch. Participants will be divided into small groups of around 10 people\, each supported by a dedicated facilitator. This means real conversation\, tailored guidance\, and the space to ask questions that matter to your specific context.\nEQUIP has also been building deep skills and experience in QI applied to population health. We’ve explored this field from angles you may not have encountered before – and we’re confident you’ll take away something new\, a fresh lens on improvement that you can apply straight away.\n\n\n\n\n\n“Learning is not about filling a bucket\, but lighting a fire.”\n— W.B. Yeats\n\n\n\n\n\nYour thinking is still yours\nIn a world where AI can help us refine an email\, polish a report\, or even shape a newsletter like this one –your way of thinking remains uniquely yours. Technology can assist\, but it cannot replace the creative spark that comes from understanding a problem deeply and imagining new possibilities. QI gives you the tools to channel that creativity into action\, and the discipline to learn from every attempt.\n\nFeed your brain. Challenge your assumptions. Join us on 7th May.\nComplete the form to register\n\nDo you have problem with the link?\nTry Investing in You: Quality Improvement Training on 7th May (PM)\, in person in Whitechapel – Fill in form\nIf you have any questions\, please contact nelondonicb.equip@nhs.net
