SUMMARY:Clinical Coding for Primary Care Staff
DESCRIPTION:Audience: Administration and Reception staff \nThis workshop will give delegates a background of the history of Read Codes\, a clear understanding of SNOMED CT and what Practices need to do to ensure their templates\, protocols\, searches and audits are future proof. Accurate clinical coding is central to GP Practices’ provision of safe\, high quality patient care\, as well as being a key component in its successful financial performance. Therefore\, it is an everyday imperative that team members involved in coding have a current practical understanding of operational best practice This workshop will increase delegates’ coding skills\, build confidence and help to eliminate the most common coding errors. \nCourse Provider: Thornfields \n\n\n\nRules of engagement  \n(MUST READ)  \n\nAll courses are delivered virtually via Teams or Zoom \n\n\nDates are offered from September onwards. Additional dates will be added based on demand and need. Your Training Hub will be providing regular updates on new topics and dates. Where places are fully subscribed\, do add your name to the waiting list to be offered priority place on future dates. \n\n\nRegistering on the courses are mandatory. This is typically through Eventbrite platform \n\n\nIn the event of needing to cancel place(s)\, this must be done via the Eventbrite platform \n\n\nSignificant public funds are being invested on these programmes to support staff development. Booking on a workshop and not turning up will incur a DNA charge. This will be the cost price of the place on the workshop. These are not free but funded Attendance/Non-attendance report will be produced and shared with your local Training Hub team \n\n\nTo ensure a high quality learning experience\, all the workshops will be interactive. To enable this you MUST have a working camera and mics to participate. You may be asked by the facilitator on the day to leave if you do not have a working camera and/or mic \n\n\nLearners are expected to join in a timely manner\, and participate in the training fully. Late entries will not be given entry. Partial participation will result in certificate not being issued and line management will be informed \n\n\nJoining links will be circulated 48-72 hours prior to delivery date. Once delegate book on a course\, they are expected to ensure diary is blocked to participate in the session \n\n\nWe expect learners to ensure protected time\, space and equipment is accessible prior to registering. This should be a place and time with minimal distraction. Practice Management should be supporting staff to facilitate this \n\n\nWe expect all learners to participate in the evaluation process of the programme. This would include on the day feedback\, and impact survey that will be carried out 12 – 16 weeks post training. This process will include collating future training needs. \n\n\nFinally\, NEL Training Hub hope you enjoy the learning experience. Do feel free to feedback any comments directly to your local Training Hub if there are any suggestions or improvements that can be made

SUMMARY:Correspondence & Workflow optimisation (2 x 2 hours)
DESCRIPTION:There is a widely held belief that a strengthened version of general practice is essential \nto the wider sustainability of the NHS and that general practices themselves seem more open to new ways of working than ever before. It’s about ‘Doing more with the same\, rather than doing more will less’ but it’s also about ‘Doing things differently’ and that means addressing both skills and processes. \n  \nOne of the great strengths of UK general practice is its diversity and its adaptability. \nThis adaptability has been especially evident in its rapid response to COVID-19. The General Practice Forward View 5 Year Plan had already begun to introduce new/emerging technologies but the demands of COVID-19 have seen practices adopting these new technologies at pace. There have been two significant changes to the delivery of care in general practice. \n  \nThe first is the acceptance that virtual consultations will be the default method by which the majority of all clinical / patient contact will take place. The second is that contact with the practice team will be routed through digital methods rather than by attending or calling in person. New principles and processes are emerging to help embed and support these new working methods as traditional roles are either adapted or replaced. \n  \nCorrespondence Management represents one of the new processes that was swiftly adopted during COVID. It is especially important as there has been a substantial increase in correspondence being received in practice. To enable a more streamlined GP workload\, valuable GP time must be released. This will be achieved bytraining non-clinical staff to manage all incoming documentation including clinical correspondence and safely redirecting only the most appropriate information to GP’s. \n  \nStaff trained in Correspondence Management & Clinical coding will read\, code and action all other necessary work against a framework based on robust protocols agreed within the practice and in so doing will free up GP time and improve the use of resources throughout the practice. It will require change – both in terms roles and responsibilities. \n  \nThe Objectives \nThis module will give delegates the opportunity to reflect on the changes of the last 6 months and understand how new technologies and consultation types will continue to impact on traditional work patterns. It will help focus on and enhance current skills and increase delegates confidence to deliver care through Document Management as part of their role in the new environment. \n  \nEffective Correspondence Management & Clinical coding will help to deliver NHS England’s Digitalisation Plan\, increased QoF\, National\, Directed and Locally Enhanced Service targets by capturing all relevant uncoded data at the earliest opportunity. This will lead to a reduction in the need for appointments as tests and procedures carried out elsewhere are quickly identified\, reducing duplications. \n  \nCorrespondence Management also provides a mechanism and route map to develop the skills and career paths of non- clinical staff. Practice staff will move away from a passive role and have a more direct impact on patient health outcomes. The skills and abilities needed to undertake CM are valuable in other new non-traditional roles such as Active Signposting\, HCA and Care Navigation. \n  \nWith relevant IT shared care agreements in place\, a team of CM trained staff can support a number of practices from one ‘hub’ or host site. It can enable a consistent approach to data management across a given locality or CCG area. This will assist in the delivery of area wide health care outcomes. CM also has the potential for streamlining services by managing resources across multiple practices. \n  \nThe day will be tailored towards particular CCGs or Federations key drivers and will be interactive to ensure that the outcomes of the day are directly applicable to the practices participating in the session.  \n  \nLearning Objectives \n\nUnderstand how new technologies have influenced the way GP’s and Clinicians behave in practice.\nUnderstand how these changes have affected the traditional roles of administrators / support staff.\nUnderstand how Correspondence Management works\nHelp staff gain skills and confidence to deliver Document Management\nRecap on Medical Terminology\nUnderstand the Benefits and Risks associated with Document Management\n\n  \n\nUnderstand what changes are necessary for successful implementation for:\n\nadministrators\nclinical staff\npatient safety\n\n\nUnderstand the need for capturing data at the earliest opportunity / templates and Read coding\nUnderstand the need for agreed robust protocols and flowcharts\nUnderstand the need for robust auditing and ongoing reviews\nTo help practices formulate a plan for implementation\nTo help localities implement Correspondence Management across clusters of practices\n\n

SUMMARY:Telephone Triage for frontline staff
DESCRIPTION:General practice is embarking on a transformational journey – a journey that is re-evaluating the people – the clinical resources it has\, the processes – how it deploys those resources and the technology – the mechanisms by which it manages the engagement with the patients. \n  \nThe key objective of Telephone Triage is to help patients access the right care at the earliest opportunity – and in a way that provides them with flexibility\, convenience\, security\, a sense of ownership and the stimulation to invest in their wellbeing. There are numerous drivers for this patient centred approach and outcomes will include a more streamlined workload for GPs\, ANPs and other members of the team in carrying out front line triage. The aim to drive further practice efficiencies in terms of access to services and patient satisfaction. It will achieve this by releasing valuable clinical time – GP time and other clinical practitioners. \n  \nFrontline staff will also actively manage requests for GP appointments and safely redirect inappropriate GP consultations to the most appropriate care providers.   \n  \nObjectives:  Telephone Triage is an essential patient engagement technique that will further develop the skills and career paths of non-clinical staff – frontline GP practice staff\, who will move away from a passive role and have a more direct impact on patient health outcomes. The skills and abilities needed to undertake telephone triage and the necessary signposting are valuable in other new non-traditional roles such as Document Management\, HCA and Care Navigation. After this web workshop\, staff will be confident in handling the triage call\, in advising and referring patients to care providers who work either within the practice team or to external care providers. \n  \nTelephone triage and signposting can present a challenging cultural shift for some teams and individual team members – and we will explore the mechanisms to help make the change as smooth as possible – some of this will build on the existing understanding\, within the practice\, of the need to change and a realisation of the benefits these changes can have. \n
