SUMMARY:Cleaner air through better places - the Directory of resources for planning healthy environments
DESCRIPTION:20 March 2024 15:00 – 16:00 CET \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBackground\nAir pollution is one of the greatest environmental risks to health\, and urgent action is needed to lessen its harmful effects. This involves working across different sectors such as transportation\, land use\, energy\, industry\, and agriculture. Air pollution is also tied to other environmental risks\, such as climate change and noise pollution. When taking action to reduce the health impacts of these environmental risks\, air pollution will be reduced too. Similarly\, improving air quality can lead to healthier populations by reducing the health effects of other environmental risks and by developing healthier environments\, while considering a multisectoral approach.\nThere’s a lot of information\, tools\, and training available to help tackling air pollution and create healthier environments. Nevertheless\, there is a need to bring all these resources together to smoothen the process for policymakers\, researchers\, city representatives and other actors to make resources easier accessible. This is the goal of the Directory of Resources for Planning Healthy Environments\, an online repository with open access resources and tools updated on a regular basis providing information on the importance of planning and designing urban areas from a health perspective\, as well as concrete guidance on how to do it.\nObjective\n\nLaunch and preview the directory of resources for planning healthy environments\, including its multilingual versions (Spanish & French).\nDiscuss the main opportunities and gaps in the field of environmental health\, for exploring better solutions for a healthier environment. \n\nRegistration and further details\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nhttps://www.who.int/news-room/events/detail/2024/03/20/default-calendar/webinar–cleaner-air-through-better-places—the-directory-of-resources-for-planning-healthy-environments

SUMMARY:NCD Hard Talks webinar: Toxic air is fueling NCDs-why are we not taking action?
DESCRIPTION: 20 March 2024 13:00 – 14:30 CET \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBackground\nWe are confronted with two public health emergencies that need to be urgently addressed: noncommunicable diseases and air pollution. Here are the hidden facts:\n\nThe simple act of breathing kills 7 million people a year – outdoor and indoor – and harms billions more.\nAlmost all these deaths – 85% – are attributable to noncommunicable diseases (NCDs)\, including heart disease\, stroke\, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and lung cancer.\nAs much as 99% of the world’s population breathe air with pollution levels that are unsafe according to the WHO Global Air Quality Guidelines.\n\nObjective\nThe event aims to present the latest data on the impacts of air pollution on different NCDs\, and will discuss how the rising NCD death toll from dirty air makes a strong argument for action. Furthermore it will define pragmatic solutions for health sector leadership and multisectoral collaboration to combat air pollution with health & NCD benefits.\n\nRegistration and further details\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nhttps://www.who.int/news-room/events/detail/2024/03/20/default-calendar/ncd-hard-talks-webinar–toxic-air-is-fueling-ncds-why-are-we-not-taking-action

SUMMARY:Personalised Prescribing: Pharmacogenomics From a Primary Care Perspective
DESCRIPTION:CLICK HERE TO REGISTER \nAdverse Drug Reactions (ADRs) to medications account for 6.5% of UK hospital admissions\, admissions related to ADRs cost the NHS an estimated £530m annually. Genetic variants in an individual can be tested to predict the likelihood of a particular drug being therapeutic\, genetic variants can also predict the likelihood of treatment causing unintended harm through a ADR. The study of how genes affect a person’s response to drugs is known as Pharmacogenomics. \nIncreasingly\, genomic testing is becoming embedded in the NHS and informing care & treatment decisions. As the largest prescriber of medicines in the NHS and the overseer of many Long Term Conditions\, primary care will\, in time\, benefit from pharmacogenomic testing to help aid & inform clinical prescribing decisions. \nJoin this educational webinar to find out more about pharmacogenomics with a primary care lens. \nSpeaker: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\nDharmisha Chauhan \nLead PharmacistNHS North Thames Genomic Medicines Service Alliance\n\n\nDharmisha Chauhan is the Lead Pharmacist for the North Thames Genomic Medicines Service Alliance which is hosted by Great Ormond Street Hospital. She has a specialist interest in precision medicine and the role of pharmacogenetics to improve patient outcomes and safety. Dharmisha also has 12 years of oncology experience with expertise in lung\, sarcoma\, skin and melanoma cancers and works clinically at the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust. Her interests include the role of genomics and immunotherapy biomarkers within clinical pharmacy practice\, especially in rare cancers. Dharmisha has collaborated on a range local and national pharmacogenetics and cancer projects\, the most recent focusing on the role of pharmacogenetics within mental health care clinical pathways.
