SUMMARY:Foundations in Motivational Interviewing (MI): “Exploring Motivation and Facilitating Change”
DESCRIPTION:(delivered across multiple dates/formats) – funded for NEL staff \nDelivery led by Sophie Dissanayake\, Learning and Development Practitioner & MI Trainer (MINT network trainer) \nMotivational Interviewing (MI) is a person-centred counselling style for addressing the common problem of ambivalence about change. North East London Training Hubs have funded limited places for local Health and Social Care workforce to access these courses. The programme will introduce\, evidence-based skills and strategies to 1) explore people’s ambivalence to change health damaging behaviours and  2) facilitate positive lifestyle change \nThe course will provide opportunities to observe and practice the approach in a protected environment. By the end of the course participants will feel able to start using Motivational Interviewing (MI) in their work settings. The course (equivalent to two days) introduces participants to the theory\, spirit and principles in using MI to help people make positive change. The training will use a range of methods including didactic teaching\, live demonstrations through role play with professional actors\, audio\, video and coaching. The training will aim to create a curiosity to learn more and develop practice. This course delivery team will include a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT) who has worked and trained across a wide range of settings. \nThe course is valued at £200pp\, and this is funded by the Training Hub. It is also CPD accredited and certificates will only be issued following completion of the training. Participants must fully attend all parts of the course and ensure you have a working microphone and camera. Late comers will not be allowed entry. Tools and systems that support people to work in partnership and to have the right information and support at the right time for the best decision. \n2. Clinician skills and values: using core and more advanced communication skills to enable people to articulate what matters to them and work out the impact of these in health options\, decisions and plans. \nThe training is delivered in 2 parts\, please choose a date for part 1 and a date for part 2. \nDuring this training we will: \n• Consider the philosophy\, benefits and components of SDM \n• Work out what the key SDM ‘moments’ are in your service \n• Make plans to put in place practical changes to how things are done to embed SDM into your pathways and patient journeys \n• See\, practice and reflect upon the consultation skills involved in SDM \n  \n\n\n\nPart 1 – What do we mean by Shared Decision Making? \n \nPart 2 – The Shared Decision Making Consultation \n \n\n\n\n\nTo introduce the whole team to the rationale for SDM and clarify current ideas and understanding.\nTo explore the overall principles that underpin SDM and think about the process of making a decision and how we support meaningful involvement in decision making.\nTo think about how we discuss risk in a meaningful way\nTo consider current patient pathways and which decision making areas you wish to focus on as an individual or team.\n\n\n\n\nTo reflect upon the philosophy and values that underpin a SDM approach.\nTo consider the consultations skills involved in SDM and have a go at scenarios using the skills outlined.\nTo continue to work with your team on SDM in the patient pathway/journey and an initial improvement that you will work on.\nTo give teams time to do some thinking about pathways\, resources and planning.

DESCRIPTION:Audience: Administration and Reception staff \nTelephone Triage is an essential patient engagement technique that will further develop the skills and career paths of non-clinical staff – frontline GP practice staff\, who will move away from a passive role and have a more direct impact on patient health outcomes. The skills and abilities needed to undertake telephone triage and the necessary signposting are valuable in other new non-traditional roles such as Document Management\, HCA and Care Navigation. This programme is designed for staff in general practice\, community services and social service staff in non-residential care settings. The care certificate programme aims to equip staff with the skills and knowledge needed to provide safe and companionate care. The programme will cover 15 standards including person centered care\, duty of care and infection\, prevention and control. Participants need to attend all four sessions! \nPlease find attached agenda for more information. \nAttendees are required to be assessed in practice by an assessor within 12 weeks following completion of the face to face workshops. Assessors in practice are invited to an assessors training session (28th March 2023\, 12:30-14:00 delivered virtually). This session will cover an introduction to the Care Certificate and provide guidance on how to complete the workbook. \nN.B. Assessors must attend this session unless they have previous experience of Care Certificate training assessment.
