SUMMARY:NEL: Head & Neck Urgent Suspected Cancer Referral Pathways – Best Practice & Top Tips
DESCRIPTION:Click HERE to register \nThis presentation provides an overview of best practice for Urgent Suspected Cancer (USC) referrals in Head and Neck (H&N) pathways across North East London. \nIt explores referral trends and challenges since 2019\, highlighting the impact of increasing low-risk referrals on service capacity and diagnostic efficiency. \nThe session shares insights from both primary and secondary care to improve the quality\, clarity\, and appropriateness of referrals—covering key topics such as risk factors\, common and atypical presentations\, and the role of early imaging and diagnostics. It also outlines Trust-specific pathways\, illustrating what referrers can expect at each site\, and introduces the updated HaNC-RC v2 triage tool\, designed to enhance predictive accuracy and support more effective triage of USC referrals. \nOverall\, the presentation aims to promote better referral quality\, earlier cancer detection\, and more efficient use of clinical resources across the NEL system.

Need help? You can follow the step-by-step sign-up guide for support. \nYou will be informed by email if you are on the training or if you are on the waiting list. This is due to:  \n\nThe high volume of applications for some of the training\, which comes in at a faster rate than can be effectively managed in real time. \nIncomplete or missing information that means your application will be rejected. \nFinding that you have applied for inappropriate training for your job role. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPreparing for the Training Session \n\nOnly apply for training you are eligible for.\n\n\nCheck you have the joining link a minimum of 48hrs before the start date and time.\n\n\nIf you do not have a link – first check your junk email folder – then email nelondonicb.cpd@nhs.net.\n\n\nComplete any pre-training work you have been sent.\n\n\nIf you are asked for an address for physical training materials\, give your home address – they will not be posted to your work.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDuring the Training Session \n\nLogin a minimum of 15 mins before the training session starts (then go to the loo and make a cuppa).\n\n\nCheck you have a working camera and microphone\, and in a place you can fully interact.\n\n\nMobile phone use is not allowed – however some providers use them for interactive elements\, such as quizzes.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCancellation Policy \n\nSome training sessions are very popular and so will have a 2 week cancellation notice date.\n\n\nSome training sessions allow for larger numbers and/or are more niche and have a 1 week cancellation notice date.\n\n\nThe date will always be on the booking page and on your confirmation email from nelondonicb.cpd@nhs.net.\n\n\nTo cancel\, please use your MedTribe account. If you need further help\, email neldondonicb.cpd@nhs.net\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDNA Policy – Things that count as a DNA \n\nIf you email to cancel after the final cancellation date detailed in your confirmation email.\n\n\nIf you cannot login before the training ‘room’ is locked\, and you have not emailed nelondonicb.cpd@nhs.net a minimum of 15 minutes before the start of the training.\n\n\nIf you are ejected from a training session because you are using an inappropriate device.\n\n\nIf you book on training that is not appropriate for your job role\, and try to attend – there will not be 2 chances if this is the case\, you will be removed from all further training.\n\n\nIf you have not received the joining link / cannot find the joining link\, but you have not emailed nelondonicb.cpd@nhs.net a minimum of 48hrs before the training date and time.\n\n\nIf the emails are in your junk email folder and you have not checked this.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDNA Policy – What happens when you DNA \n\n1st DNA: You and your Manager will receive an email informing you that you have DNA’d a pre-booked session without cancellation.\n2nd DNA: You will automatically be removed from any further CPD training for the current financial year. You and your Manager will receive confirmation of this by email.\n\n\nYou will have an opportunity to appeal\, but please read the DNA Policy – Things that count as a DNA page first.\nIf you have to cancel your place later than 5 full working days prior to the start of the session\, please email nelondonicb.cpd@nhs.net explaining your exceptional circumstances\, and these will be taken into consideration when deciding whether it counts as a DNA.
