SUMMARY:NEL: Head & Neck Urgent Suspected Cancer Referral Pathways – Best Practice & Top Tips
DESCRIPTION:Click HERE to register \nThis presentation provides an overview of best practice for Urgent Suspected Cancer (USC) referrals in Head and Neck (H&N) pathways across North East London. \nIt explores referral trends and challenges since 2019\, highlighting the impact of increasing low-risk referrals on service capacity and diagnostic efficiency. \nThe session shares insights from both primary and secondary care to improve the quality\, clarity\, and appropriateness of referrals—covering key topics such as risk factors\, common and atypical presentations\, and the role of early imaging and diagnostics. It also outlines Trust-specific pathways\, illustrating what referrers can expect at each site\, and introduces the updated HaNC-RC v2 triage tool\, designed to enhance predictive accuracy and support more effective triage of USC referrals. \nOverall\, the presentation aims to promote better referral quality\, earlier cancer detection\, and more efficient use of clinical resources across the NEL system.

SUMMARY:Newham Protected Learning Time Sessions
DESCRIPTION:Our next PLT will be taking place on Thursday 5th March from 2.30pm to 5.30pm. There will be two sessions\, one for clinical staff and one for non-clinical staff.\n\n\nREGISTRATION:\nWe are now using Medtribe to advertise our Newham PLTs and to better capture attendance data. This will also help streamline our processes\, as certificates of attendance will be issued automatically once feedback forms have been completed. As a result\, to receive a certificate\, attendees will be required to register for all future Newham PLT sessions via Medtribe. The joining link for the sessions will also be on Medtribe.\nThe Medtribe links for the sessions are below. Please do register:\n\nClinical session: https://medtribe.com/courses/newham-clinical-protected-learning-time-adult-mental-health?utm_medium=copy-link&utm_source=share-modal\nClick HERE for the Clinical MS Teams link.\n\nNon-clinical session: https://medtribe.com/courses/newham-non-clinical-plt-safeguarding-sexual-safety-charter?utm_medium=copy-link&utm_source=share-modal\nClick HERE for the Non-clinical MS Teams link.\n\n\nThe clinical session will focus on Adult Mental Health and is chaired by Dr Imrana Siddiqui. The agenda is:\n2.30pm – Introduction & Pathways Update\n2.40pm – Supported Transfer of Care\n3.10pm – Mental Health Reviews\n3.40pm – Break\n3.50pm – First Episode Psychosis\n4.30pm – Dementia Update\n5.00pm – Dementia: What Wider Support Is Available?\n5.15pm – Q&A and Close\n\nThe non-clinical session will focus on Safeguarding and the Sexual Safety Charter\, supporting practice teams to strengthen safe\, respectful\, and professional working environments. The session will be delivered by Emma Tukmachi and Dr Subir Sen. The agenda is:\n2.30pm – Safeguarding\n3.35pm – Break\n3.45pm – Sexual Safety Charter\n\nCOVER ARRANGEMENTS:\nIf by attending\, your practice opening offer would need to be a skeleton one\, Newham Health Collaborative will be able to provide the telephone cover for the period of 2:30pm-6:30pm with a same day urgent care offer – this means that your telephone lines will be transferred to NHC from no earlier than 2:30pm.\n\nTo arrange this cover please email Newham Health Collaborative nhc@nhs.net and ICB team nelondonicb.tnwprimarycare@nhs.net by no later than 5pm on Wednesday 25th February.\n\nNHC will cover the telephones until 6:30pm\, but they cannot transfer your phone service to your out of hours provider – so you will need someone in your team to do this at your practice at 6:30pm to complete this task.\nNHC call handlers will complete an initial triage when taking each call and patients will be referred to one of our Urgent Care GPs who will provide a telephone consultation. If an urgent face to face appointment is needed\, the patient will be offered an appointment at our UTC divert service Essex Lodge. Please do not signpost your patients to Essex Lodge if attending the PLT session.\n\nPractices should plan for a skeleton service at their premises and patients should be able to access the practice to collect prescriptions\, etc.\nIf you are aware of a member of your practice team who has not received this email\, please advise them to email myself\, Jessica Oghenegweke – j.oghenegweke@nhs.net. I will then add them to the circulation list.\n\nUPCOMING NEWHAM PLT DATES:\nHere are the dates for future Newham PLT sessions we have scheduled:\n6th May 2026\n2nd July 2026\n2nd September 2026\n5th November 2026\n6th January 2027
