DESCRIPTION:Date: \n8th December 2025 / 09:00-16:15\nLink: \nhttps://medtribe.com/courses/nel-cpd-blood-results-interpretation-9ec9c9c1-ae23-403b-9c31-b42cc6a00676?utm_medium=copy-link&utm_source=share-modal\n\nThis CPD-accredited course on interpreting blood results is tailored for healthcare professionals working in general practice and primary care. \nAttendees must complete a competency document after this course\, you will have 3 months to do this and receive this prior to the course. \nLearning Outcomes\nUnderstanding of the context of how practitioners can utilise the knowledge gained on the course and how to engage with the competencies using Benners model.\nAn overview of how we measure cells and chemicals in the blood.\nAble to understand the signs and symptoms of anaemia.\nBe able to differentiate between microcytic\, normocytic and macrocytic anaemia.\nUnderstands to the different causes of a raised haemoglobin.\nGain understanding of Sickle cell trait and disease and the thalassaemia’s.\nCan differentiate between the different white blood cells and understands the causes in a rise or fall.\nAble to differentiate between the intrinsic and extrinsic coagulation pathway. Can explain the components of a clotting screen.\nCan explain the function of platelets and can give reasons for an increase and decrease.\nUnderstands when it would be appropriate to request B12\, folate and iron studies. Can give reasons for abnormalities.\nUnderstands the use and relevance of inflammatory markers such as C-Reactive Protein and Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate.\nBe able to explain the different components of the Urea & Electrolytes and can give reasons for abnormalities. \nInterpretation of Blood Results Course – Intended Learning Outcomes\nBe able to understand how to interpret the eGFR with regard to chronic kidney disease.\nUnderstands diagnostic criteria for Diabetes based on blood glucose & HbA1C.\nCan interpret Thyroid function tests in treated and diseased states.\nUnderstand what contributes to the liver function tests and reasons for abnormalities.\nUnderstands the components of a bone profile and when to request/refer to medical team.\nAble to explain Vitamin D Deficiency & Insufficiency. You and your Manager will receive confirmation of this by email.\n\n\nYou will have an opportunity to appeal\, but please read the DNA Policy – Things that count as a DNA page first.\nIf you have to cancel your place later than 5 full working days prior to the start of the session\, please email nelondonicb.cpd@nhs.net explaining your exceptional circumstances\, and these will be taken into consideration when deciding whether it counts as a DNA.
