DESCRIPTION:CLICK HERE TO REGISTER \nDr Shani Bhaskaran is a GP with 20 plus years’ experience working Newham primary care . \nShe is a NEL GP appraiser and a central tutor for QMUL university. \nShani is a ILM5 qualified coach and mentor and she provides mentoring for SPIN fellows in Newham and she coaches NHS clinical and non-clinical staff via the Shuri Network. \nShe has considerable experience in facilitation having led and facilitated local and national peer support groups Positive Peer Empowerment group and Doctor Mess respectively. She is a trained action learning set facilitator . \nHaving participated in peer reflective sessions\, Shani recognise the value of creating safe reflective spaces for fellow GPs to share \, collaborate and take action/ move forward for improved wellbeing\, reduced stress and for enhanced performance\, all the more important in this present climate of pressured work environments and life stresses with the potential for distress and burn out. \nShani would be holding reflective sessions remotely at 3 pm via MS teams on the third Wednesday of each month commencing 18th June 2025 for 1 hour . This offer to participate in Newham GP Reflective Sessions is open to GPs working in NEL primary care with the aim to provide reflective spaces facilitated in small groups.

DESCRIPTION:Learning to Advise Course for social prescribing link workers and similar roles.\n\nOver recent years your feedback and reporting have shown that a significant proportion of social prescribing clients and those with mental health issues have issues with housing\, welfare benefits claims\, debt\, cost of living\, immigration and similar issues. \nThis free training has been designed to equip social prescribing link workers and similar roles in North East London with detailed knowledge of these issues\, how to ask clients about them\, understand the implications and how to support clients to access the right support and advice in their borough. \nThe course is studied over 12 half and full day on-line and in-person sessions between September 25 and February 26\, with a time commitment of approx. 2 days a month. \nThe Learning to Advise course opens a career pathway to an enhanced social prescribing role with a specialism in social welfare advice\, through the option of studying a follow-on training in 2026\, which consists NVQ level 3 in Advice and Guidance with a training placement. \nFind out more at one of our INFORMATION WEBINARS\nThursday 26th June\, 12:30-1:30 and Wednesday 16th July\, 3:00-4:00 \nPlease note\, no prior knowledge of the topics is needed or assumed to study the Learning to Advise Course.

DESCRIPTION:I am Professor Joanne Harris\, and I am delighted to have joined the University of East London this month as the new Dean of Medicine. In addition to my education role\, I also practice as a GP in London. The University is embarking on an exciting initiative to establish a GMC-accredited MBBS undergraduate School of Medicine at the Stratford campus\, with the first cohort of students set to begin in 2027. As we develop this programme\, we aim to leverage the comprehensive resources of the UEL Health Campus to create enriching learning opportunities for local healthcare providers\, including both medical and Allied Health professionals. \nBuilding on the success of the workshop series as part of the Postgraduate Academy of Health education programme\, previously developed and delivered to our Health Fellows\, we are expanding these offerings to a broader audience. Course is open to all staff working in health and social care in North East London. Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a person-centred counselling style for addressing the common problem of ambivalence about change. The programme will introduce\, evidence-based skills and strategies to 1) explore people’s ambivalence to change health damaging behaviours and 2) facilitate positive lifestyle change \nThe course will provide opportunities to observe and practice the approach in a protected environment. By the end of the course participants will feel able to start using Motivational Interviewing (MI) in their work settings. The course (equivalent to two days) introduces participants to the theory\, spirit and principles in using MI to help people make positive change. The training will use a range of methods including didactic teaching\, live demonstrations through role play with professional actors\, audio\, video and coaching. The training will aim to create a curiosity to learn more and develop practice. This course delivery team will include a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT) who has worked and trained across a wide range of settings. \nParticipants must fully attend all parts of the course and ensure you have a working microphone and camera (if being delivered online). Late comers will not be allowed entry. The course is delivered via Zoom platform\, and learners should ensure device and network enables this prior to registering. Joining instruction will be circulated 48 hours prior to the delivery dates. \n\nWhat previous attendees have feedback: \n‘This training is perfect for my role -in facilitating new assessments and I am thankful for participating in MI training’ \n‘Really enjoyed this course.  Reflection on own practice – a lot of thought provoking areas that I need to change.  e.g. using more open questions compared to closed’ \n‘Mindful communication\, person centred\, empathetic.. all of the MI techniques and the spirit! All of the training was helpful\, particularly as it was very interactive. Breakout rooms were helpful’ \n\nPlaces are limited please book early to avoid disappointment!
