QUALITY APPROVED LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS AND EDUCATIONAL SUPERVISORS AND ANNUAL SELF-ASSESSMENTS
Given changes on the horizon for NHS England we wanted to update you on how these processes are moving forward:
Initial approval of learning environments and educational supervisors of all professions, are a continued priority to enable high-quality learning for all primary care learners, (as stated in the Education Quality Strategy and Framework) and to enable placement expansion. This work will need to continue to feed into national expansion priorities regardless of the organisation these workstreams will fall under in the longer term.
The Periodic Self-Assessment Process, is being rolled out nationally based on the London region pilot and will be updated in the next few months with a submission deadline in Q1 of 2026. This process will also gather capacity for future trainees and inform the allocation process of GP trainees and other learners. Therefore, while we encourage PCNs to keep accurate records of all educational supervisor and learning environment approvals, there is no urgency to gather data for this specific process currently. We will of course keep you updated on how this work progresses.
