NHSE London Staff Experience and Engagement Team Weekly Round Up

Thursday 16th January
This is the Staff Experience and Engagement Team Roundup which gathers information into one weekly communication for Health and Wellbeing leads to track information updates, deadlines and upcoming events. The Weekly Roundup is sent weekly to all Health and Wellbeing Leads and will always be saved to the NHS Futures Workspace.

We’ll be using the ‘Our London People’ NHS Futures Site to store all of our documents, so all links will direct you there. Once you’ve joined it’ll be really simple for you to access in future. The site is a work in progress, please let us know if you have any feedback.

News and Updates
Following the deeply concerning attack on a nurse at Royal Oldham Hospital over the weekend, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on this issue and remind you of the resources available to support our NHS workforce.

Violence against NHS staff is, unfortunately, still far too common. Every member of our staff deserves to come to work feeling safe and supported, free from the fear of harm as they dedicate themselves to helping others.

While we recognise that this is a complex societal issue and it may be impossible to eliminate all risks, we have a collective responsibility to do everything within our power to minimise these risks.

To support this, NHS England have recently updated the Violence Prevention and Reduction Standard, offering a comprehensive and practical framework that can guide your organisation in creating safer environments for our staff.  Find the updated standard here.

We encourage you to review this updated standard and use it as a tool to strengthen violence prevention strategies within your teams. Together, we can take meaningful steps to protect our staff and ensure they feel secure and valued in their critical roles.

If you have any questions or need further support, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. england.londonhwb@nhs.net

A quick reminder to share the NHS wellbeing resources with your teams. These tools and materials are designed to support our staff’s physical, mental, and emotional health as they continue to provide outstanding care to others. Find the resources here.

Thank you for your ongoing dedication to the health and wellbeing of our staff.

Pathway through Pain, a pain management programme for chronic Musculoskeletal pain
Good Thinking is delighted to announce the launch of a new app as part of our mental health and wellbeing support offer to Londoners – Pathway through Pain, a pain management programme for chronic Musculoskeletal (MSK) pain.

MSK pain affects more than 20 million people in the UK, and more than 1 in every 10 employees live with an MSK condition, ranging from minor injuries to long-term conditions. Besides the physical symptoms, evidence shows a clear link between chronic pain and poor mental health, including anxiety, low mood and sleep problems.

Delivered through our partners at Wellmind Health, Pathway through Pain is NHS-approved and designed and delivered by experts to support people experiencing chronic MSK pain. Through a combination of physical and psychological therapies, including pain management techniques, exercise, lifestyle changes and cognitive approaches, programme participants learn expert-led pain management strategies that help them to better understand their pain and improve their quality of life.

Pathway through Pain can be completed at an individual pace and is available free of charge to anyone living or working in London.

We’d welcome your support in raising awareness of Pathway through Pain across your networks. Click here for the communication toolkit you can adapt and use across your communication channels, including newsletter copy, social media content and graphics, FAQs and a promotional poster and flyer.

You can also find out more about Pathway through Pain here.

Flu and COVID-19 staff vaccines
A reminder that both the flu and COVID-19 vaccines should continue to be offered to all eligible frontline health and social care professionals, including clinical and non-clinical staff who have direct contact with patients.

NHS organisations should ensure that convenient and clearly signposted local vaccination arrangements remain in place for eligible frontline professionals until Friday 31 January for COVID-19, and Monday 31 March for flu, including through local booking systems where appropriate.

Organisations should also continue to encourage those eligible to come forward, for example by raising awareness in staff networks and team meetings, making it as easy as possible with out-of-hours vaccinations and pop-up clinics, or offering drop-in sessions.”

Eligible NHS staff can also find COVID-19 vaccinations in their area until the end of January by visitingwww.nhs.uk/covid-walk-in.
