Reforming early careers pharmacist education pathways from 2026

Following implementation of the Initial Education and Training reforms from 2025, 2026 will mark the first year that new registrants will enter the pharmacist workforce as independent prescribers. To realise their full potential, and widen their generalist scope of practice, this new generation of early careers pharmacists (ECP) will require education and career pathways that are aligned to their skills and knowledge and enable the further development of these to meet service delivery needs.

As an initial step for this work, we are inviting all those who are involved in the training and development of early careers pharmacists including ICS pharmacy workforce leads, employers, managers and supervisors, to complete the following survey to share their views to help shape the post-2026 vision for early career pharmacist education and training. Outcomes of the survey will be collated to support the national work on post-registration training for early careers pharmacists.

Please circulate this survey more widely across your system and organisation and to colleagues and peers across all pharmacy sectors.

The survey will close on Monday 16th December 2024.

Regional engagement will be completed between Nov 2024 to Jan 2025 to additionally capture London stakeholder viewpoints through attendance at system/sector meetings and network events.
